Our dry finish Tin Cloth Cruiser provides the same protection from wind, abrasion, and brambles as our original. It’s designed for drier conditions, with increased breathability compared to the waxed version.
Patented in March of 1914, the Filson Cruiser was designed for foresters cruising timber ahead of logging crews. The original was made from warm Mackinaw Wool and available as a pullover or button-front jacket. The waxed cotton version followed soon after, with double-layer outer sleeves and shoulder fronts for added water protection. The waxed canvas version was an alternative to wool in wet, muddy, and brushy conditions. In the 1970s we introduced a version that was treated for water resistance but wasn’t waxed, and now it’s returned.
Tin Cloth is a tightly-woven duck canvas with exceptional tear strength and abrasion resistance. A bit stiff initially, it breaks in like a good pair of boots, molding to the shape of your body. It’s a puncture-resistant barrier to thorns and barbed wire, while sawdust and debris brush off with ease. A reach-through pocket covers the entire back creating two layers of protection. The front features four flapped cargo pockets, side-entry hand pockets and a slotted tool pocket on the left chest.
